About guttering, fascias & soffits

Gutters and fascias are the plain parts of a roof that quietly protect everything else. Gutters that overflow or sag soak walls, rot the boards behind them, and leave damp patches near the ceiling. Our roofline specialists fix leaking joints, reset the fall, and replace whole gutter runs in uPVC or metal. They also renew fascias and soffits, swapping rotten wood for boards that need no upkeep. Since a loft still needs to breathe, this work always keeps proper airflow rather than sealing it shut.

How we help

Find Trusted Roofers is a national network that connects UK homeowners with local roofers. Since we are not a roofing contractor, we don't do the work ourselves. Instead, you tell us about your gutters & fascias job once. We then match you with a roofer in our network who covers your postcode and works on your roof type. Every roofer quotes from their own survey, and you deal directly with them and choose whether to proceed.

We check the roofers in our network against Companies House, and confirm public liability insurance. We also note any TrustMark, NFRC or CompetentRoofer membership. We verify what we can, although we don't guarantee the work itself. The work is always contracted directly between you and the roofer.

Guttering, Fascias & Soffits — FAQs

How much does new guttering cost?

Replacing the gutters on a typical semi runs around £600–£1,300 in uPVC, more in cast-iron-style aluminium. The total depends on the length of run and how many fittings it needs. Individual repairs — a leaking union, a re-aligned run, replacement brackets — are often £80–£250, so it's worth asking for a repair quote first.

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Once a year for most homes, twice if you're under trees. Blocked gutters are the single cheapest roof problem to prevent. They're also one of the most expensive to ignore, once water starts tracking into the fascia and wall.

What are fascias and soffits, and why do they rot?

The fascia is the vertical board carrying the gutter; the soffit is the horizontal board underneath. Timber versions rot when gutter overflows soak them repeatedly. Although uPVC removes that maintenance, the installer still needs to include proper eaves ventilation.

Can you replace fascias without replacing the roof?

Yes — fascia and soffit replacement is standard standalone work. The bottom row of tiles is lifted, boards swapped, and eaves felt is renewed if perished, with ventilation strips fitted. One to two days for most houses.

Why does water drip behind my gutter?

Usually the eaves felt has perished, so water runs down behind the gutter instead of into it. Fitting eaves protector trays under the bottom tile course is the standard fix. It's inexpensive when done alongside other roofline work.
